NEXT GENERATION!

Compared to most of the "new and improved" devices for 2010, the Omnia HD still holds firm as best multimedia device available! The OS may be uninspiring but the feature set which the Omnia HD holds firms are still second to none! Some of these new devices are the iPhone 4, Nokia N8, HTC Desire HD, Samsung Galaxy S, Nokia C7, Samsung Wave and the HTC EVO! As you can see these are all bigger contenders for first place but they all lack something!

The closest device to the Omnia HD is the Nokia N8 minus the 3.7" display, loudspeaker output and LED video light! But the Samsung Galaxy S may have the upper hand on the Nokia N8 and the Omnia HD with its SuperAMOLED 4" Display, its faster, more stylish and vibrant UI, Android OS and 1GHz Processor!

So the question is, how much do you love your Omnia HD and how bad do you need an upgrade? Will you go for the on par Nokia N8? The least comparable iPhone 4? The stunning upgrade that is the Samsung Galaxy S? The average spec'ed Nokia C7? The "Bada" Samsung Wave? The huge display of the HTC Desire HD? or the 4G HTC EVO?

If you can keep your Omnia HD and upgrade to any of the above mentioned devices then that would be the ideal situation to be in! But if you must part with your Omnia HD then the ultimate choice would be the Samsung Galaxy S! But buyer preference always prevails and that is what pushes the end result!

More Firmware News!

To this day Samsung Mobile has refused to stand by there promises of better software support for there flagship handset - Samsung i8910 HD. This however is no longer an issue, thanks to developers like hyperx n faenil, with there modded firmware releases. In these release, they have found ways to correct issues Samsung themselves have listed as "impossible to resolve". The firmwares incorporate all of the latest advances such as kinetic scrolling, built-in kastor effects and rompatching, increased phone memory, platform stability, modded music player theme, nokia software compatiblity and the most talked about feature, the frame-rate fixed and audio sync on video recording. The hyperx firmwares are alot more popular than faenil's. However, faenil's firmwares are alot more stable and cooked just right to ensure fewer bugs. Both of these custom firmware are available free of charge, but donations are accepted. The latest hyperx firmware can be found here! As for the latest faenil firmware it can be found here! I hope u guys enjoy these two wonderful firmwares! Also hyperx has been working on an update to his last firmware which will include kinetic scrolling in the menu and landscape view in the menu as well!

FIRMWARES/ FIXES and MODS

It has been ages since i have posted on this blog. The reason being all verteran i8910 users have matured and become will aware of the risks, benefits and support available to them. Firmware updates have been dominating most forums, mainly those developed by HyperX ! Samsung have dropped the ball on numerous occassions and hyperx has picked up the pieces! There is now a firmware which contains a fix for the frame rate skip.....! We are all thankful to HyperX and all those who assist him in his work! I am currently using the HX-V3 main release which i love! Its fast, has few bugs, camera works faster and better and HD recording is stable with pre-autofocus! The firmwares are so amazing that even the music player theme has been changed. There will be more to come and HyperX has made owning the i8910 as exciting as when we all first got our hands on it!

GAMING: LIKE GAMING? THEN YOU WILL LOVE THIS!

I notice most i8910 users like gaming on their device! Whether it be via emulators(such as gameboy and Nintendo) or simply by installing java platform games, gaming is definitely one of the main attraction of any symbian based phone. Today I'll be posting links to games! I have also got this Italian website with a few games as well. But i am still searching for a modified version of Ngage which will run seamlessly on the i8910. Keep an eye out for that! Enjoy 

WARNING: POSSIBLE UPDATE ISSUES/FIXES

We all know that software support has been few and far between. Samsung have only released firmwares in regions such as China, Russia, German and Italy and although thousands of other regions distribute their device, not one firmware has been sent their way! Samsung have once again announced a new update which is geared at resolving a handful of the devices bugs and drawbacks. They also went on to promise that update will be released worldwide (haven't we heard that line before). Lets all keep our fingers crossed while we all await this new update! 

Moving on to issues with previous updates. As most of you know, i have flashed, hacked, modded and updated my device. So here is what i have noticed  about my most recent update. The firmware in question is I8910XXII2 which i was able to update to - using PC Studio  - after previously flashing my device to the I8910XXII1 firmware. After i flashed my device to the I8910XXII1, i had no issues, whether it be with video recording, web browsing,  downloading, uploading and also video playback! Everything worked wonderfully, until i updated to the I8910XXII2 firmware. The main issue i had was with video playback. Whenever i playback a recorded video, there was always this "whistling kettle" noise that just ran through the entire recording. At first i thought it was because i didn't hard reset my device after update, so i did just that, but the issue never went away. Then i re-called this "secret code"- which Hamid posted, which allows users to edit sound quality, so i grabbed my Omnia HD and dialed in *#0002*28346# to access that "secret menu". Now my issue, as i mentioned, was with with video recording - thus the option which says "record" would seem the logical choice. So i click on "record" and i make a note of all the default settings (just in case i mess something up) then i try editing every section - one at a time - until i solve the issue. Finally, after making all of the changes, i found where i the issue lied. Under the "record" option there are four others - Main MIC, HS MIC, CamcordDSP_AMR and CamcordAMR_AMR - the option which solved my issue was the CamcordAMR_AMR. After selecting that option i noticed there were to sections - Tx MicAmp(which was set to 30dB) and Tx Channel(which was set to 25dB) - i changed the Tx Channel from 25dB to 12dB, then i selected "back-up" at the main list and then exited the menu. Now i able able to record and playback with no issues. To anyone who experiences issues such as this one, after new update, just try what i did! Hope this was helpful! 

DEBRANDING: HOW TO GET RID OF YOUR OLD FIRMWARE

Getting tired of your old firmware? Missing out on features like 3D multitasker, 5.1 surround sound with the built-in speaker or just a faster smoother UI? Then this is the answer for you! Here I'll post some links to the tools which make DEBRANDING/FLASHING possible! First you need to get Symbian ROM Flashing Toolz
- this is software u need to complete the DEBRANDING/FLASHING - you'll also need the FIRMWARE that u intend on flashing too! Some guys have been nice enough to post VIDEOS of the flashing process! I have already flashed my i8910HD and its a very scary, yet easy process! Since flashing my phone i have also used PC Studio to UPDATE to the I8910XXII2. What i can tell u about this firmware is that its faster than all of the previous firmwares and has all the fixes and new features that other firmwares lack. Samsung has announced a WORLDWIDE firmware (i8910XXIL3) update, which should be launched this month. Some dude was given a pre-release of this UPDATE which he ran through, showing some of the things to be expected on the official release. I'll keep you guys "updated" no pun intended!
